In 1881, St. Joseph’s in Wayland was founded under Father George Zurcher. A church was erected with Bishop Ryan participating in some dedication ceremonies after inclement weather kept him from arriving in time for the actual dedication. More than 135 years later that edi ce continues to serve area Catholics. St. Joseph’s also hosts the Holy Family parish of ces.
In 2004 Sacred Heart, St. Mary, St. Pius V and St. Joseph’s combined into a single parish under the title of Holy Family Catholic Community.
