St. Francis Solanus originally was a mission, rst of Holy Cross and later of St. James. The Catholics in Interlaken – which for most of the 1800s was called Farmer Village – began construction on their own church in 1874, and Bishop McQuaid dedicated the completed church in 1875. In 1956 St. Francis Solanus had become an independent parish staffed by Capuchin Franciscans.
