Blessed Sacrament’s other worship site, St. Patrick’s, was established in 1869 to accommodate the city’s growing Irish Catholic population. Father Patrick Hopkins was the church’s founding priest, but he died in 1870 and was replaced by Father James J. Bloomer, a native of Ireland. Father (later Monsignor) Bloomer served as pastor of St. Patrick’s for 61 years. He oversaw construction of a temporary church in 1871 and the permanent structure in 1874, which was dedicated by Buffalo Bishop Stephen V. Ryan.
In 2007, Ss. Peter & Paul and St. Patrick’s joined, along with Elmira’s former St. Anthony Church, to form Blessed Sacrament.
