An Oct. 11, 2015, liturgy celebrated anniversaries of the three worship sites that make up Elmira’s Christ the Redeemer Parish.
Bishop Salvatore R. Matano celebrated the liturgy at St. Casimir Church, which noted the 125th anniversary of that church’s founding, the 80th anniversary of St. Charles Borromeo and the
75th anniversary of Our Lady of Lourdes.
St. Casimir was established in 1890 for Polish immigrants, with Father Bartlomiej Swinko as founding pastor. That year a small church opened on Roe Avenue, and in 1912 the current church was dedicated. In 1990, a perpetual-adoration chapel opened in St. Casimir’s basement.
