CHESTER COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
presents
THIRD
THURSDAYS
July 20 - 6 p.m. on the Village Green
Steeped in American blues, swing,
Latin and jazz, Gypsy Roots draws
upon the strong influence of music
within the Gypsy diaspora, particu-
larly the style pioneered by the leg-
endary French Gypsy guitar genius,
Django Reinhardt. Terms such as jazz
manouche, Gypsy Jazz, and “string
swing” have been applied to this genre
of music created and explored by
Reinhardt and his Roma brethren. The
tradition of this music continues today
as contemporary Gypsy musicians
move forward to create exhilarating
and vibrant tapestries of sound with
one ear firmly fixed on their rich
cultural past. It is within this philosophy
that Gypsy Roots creates its sound,
Gypsy Roots full of passion, fun, fire and promise.
Join the caravan, sit around the
campfire and explore the sonic
journeys of Gypsy Roots.
Performing in August “Outside the Wire”
In August, Larry Lyles will return to the Village Green with violin, keyboards and microphone
in his role as music director for Chester’s newest variety group, Outside the Wire. As a project
of Chester based Trigate Productions, OTW is best described as a “variety band.”
Trigate’s President, and percussionist, Lee McDowell, has taken this five-member group to
levels of playing and vocalizing described as “awesome,” “fantastic” by patrons who have seen
their shows at I Don’t Know Sports Bar, Colonial Restaurant, Beach Station Fall Festival, and,
most recently, a performance alongside the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra.
Whether your taste in music is Eagles, Garth Brooks, Elvis, Pink Floyd, or anywhere in
between, Outside the Wire will delight your audible senses!
Outside The Wire will be performing as part of the Third Thursday Series on August 17, as
well as part of the lineup at Chester Fest on September 23.
