Infant

The Primrose Balanced Learning® Wonder Program is designed for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old who attend the Infant,
Toddler, Early Preschool and Preschool Pathways classrooms. In the Wonder Program, concepts are introduced and reinforced

through authentic, integrated learning experiences that tap into young children’s natural learning processes. Observation and
exploration guided by teachers through nurturing interactions are the primary vehicles for learning. Every learning experienc
is purposeful, with flexibility for teachers to adapt and personalize it for each child.

                                            Language and Literacy Development

WHY: From the moment they are born, babies listen, process and imitate speech sounds they hear.
          • Infant teachers interact with your baby in meaningful “serve and return” exchanges throughout daily activities,
responding to babbles, gestures or cries with the appropriate eye contact, encouraging words or a caring hug to nurture
           early language development.
          • During Og’s Story Time your infant curls up in the teacher’s lap to listen to stories, poems and songs. This provides your
child with opportunities to learn to recognize voices, sounds and words for building the foundation for later language and
           literacy skills.
          • Sign Language provides your infant with a means to communicate important wants and needs without words. Infant
teachers use signs as they naturally occur throughout the day while feeding, diapering, and during play. You also receive
a set of sign language cards to use at home!

                                                Mathematics Development

WHY: Even the youngest babies begin to show awareness of quantity and spatial relationships as they observe and move
          objects.
          • Your infant explores and learns geometric concepts while observing and interacting with toys such as blocks and balls.
          • Your child begins to develop a sense of time and sequence with consistent daily routines.

          • Infant teachers intentionally introduce number name and sequence by counting fingers and toes during diapering or
           counting toys during tummy time.

                                             Science and Sensory Exploration

WHY: Children enter the world as natural scientists, observing and curious to explore how the world works and their role in it.

          • From birth your baby has been exploring the world through all senses. Each classroom is full of toys, equipment and
books to stimulate your child’s desire to explore and curiosity about how things work.

          • Even the youngest scientists explore problems and try to find multiple solutions.
