Toddler

The Primrose Balanced Learning® Wonder Program is designed for children ages 6 weeks to 3 years old who attend the Infant,
Toddler, Early Preschool and Preschool Pathways classrooms. In the Wonder Program, concepts are introduced and reinforced

through authentic, integrated learning experiences that tap into young children’s natural learning processes. Observation and
exploration guided by teachers through nurturing interactions are the primary vehicles for learning. Every learning experience
is purposeful, with flexibility for teachers to adapt and personalize it for each child.

                                            Language and Literacy Development
WHY: Developing language and literacy skills begins at birth and is a continuous developmental process.
          • Your toddler’s oral language explodes between one and two years of age! During this time, your child begins to
understand the reciprocal nature of conversation and recognizes voices, sounds and the playfulness of language.

          • During Og’s Story Time, your child enjoys listening to stories and poems while developing an appreciation for the rhythm
           and cadence of language.
          • Your toddler continues to learn and use sign language to communicate important wants and needs while developing oral
language skills. You also receive a set of sign language cards to use at home!

                                                       Mathematics
WHY: Positive early experiences with mathematics help children develop confidence and support children’s flexibility,
inventiveness and persistence in solving problems.

          • Your young child forms mathematical concepts long before learning about numbers. Your toddler begins to classify
objects in simple ways and recognizes spatial relationships such as in and out, under and over.

          • Your child begins lining up blocks, rote counting to three, putting items in order by size, recognizing shapes and
assembling a puzzle to build an understanding of math and spatial concepts that goes beyond counting.

                                            Science and Sensory Development
WHY: Young children are born with curiosity and the ability to use their senses to explore how the world works and to
          discover their role in it.

          • You can take comfort in knowing that your little scientist is safe while exploring the classroom and playground environment!
Each Primrose classroom is full of developmentally appropriate toys, equipment and books to safely nurture curiosity,
discovery and wonderment about how things work.

          • Toddler teachers help to extend learning by verbally pointing out what your child is doing and encouraging them to try new
           experiences.
