a way to pray that. You can thank Him. Thank You, Lord, for thinking
about me more than the sands on the earth. “Wash me and I shall be
whiter than snow.” Will God over answer that prayer? Snow is the
whitest thing on the earth. Will God over answer that? Indeed He will,
because language is limited, and the language of the Bible is human
language. God is better than His Word. Infinitely better than His Word
because His Word is expressed in human language.
God must answer out of His person, out of His essence, and God is
infinite. This means every answer to prayer must be an infinite answer to
prayer. It has to be. The Lord says that God is a shield to me. Infinitely
more than that. That is just a little picture. And so pray in those mighty
figures into your soul. Open your mouth wide, He says in Psalm 81,
verse 10, and I will fill it. Turn that into a prayer. Lord, I am opening
my mouth wide, fill it. Talk to the Lord about these things. Let me ask
this question. Does God answer superabundantly all through prayer or
has He only promised to over answer some prayer? And the answer is,
and do not be afraid to believe it, God has promised to superabundantly
answer every prayer. He has to do that because He is better than His
Word. He is infinite.
When you come to any great truth in the Bible, do not be afraid to say,
Lord, here is a great truth, now, answer that exceeding, abundantly
beyond. Are you afraid to pray that? Oh, may God help you. You see,
that is how to get into the Psalms, and that is how the Psalms will get
into you. There is infinite fullness in every promise, and God Himself is
infinite. Are you familiar with that great title of the Lord, El Shaddai?
That word just means the God who is more than enough. And so by
relating prayer to all these figures of speech, He teaches us that He over
answers prayer.
Let me relate prayer to another section of Scripture, the Royal Psalms
which are 93 to 100. You know from the title that they are Psalms about
the King. They have to do with the God’s sovereignty. Psalm 97:1,
“The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice.” Psalm 99:1,
“The LORD reigns, let the peoples tremble.” God reigns.
He is on His throne. And then the Historical Psalms have to do with man
and the decisions that men make. Turn if you would, for a moment, to
Psalm 136. This is one of the great Psalms of history. Now we are not
going to read the whole Psalm, but just glance at it. Did you notice that
there is a verse repeated all the way through the psalm, “For His loving
