God’s will.

Let me try to illustrate this and drive it home. Turn to Psalm 37:4,

“Delight yourself in the LORD; and He will give you the desires of
          your heart.”

Now for years I misunderstood that. I thought it said that He will give
you what your heart desires. In other words, He will give you a car and
He will give you an education and a nice family and a life partner and
good investments and so on. That is not what He is saying. It is not
giving you what your heart desires. It is giving you the desire of your
heart. In other words, you have a desire. Where did you get it? God
gave it to you. Exactly so. The point is this. If you delight yourself in
the Lord, you will become conformed to the Lord. You will become
like Him, and God will begin to plant in your heart desires that are from
Him. And as you have these desires, you are going to pray. That is what
a prayer is. It is the desire. It is the pouring out. Remember desire
comes from DE and SIRE, meaning “Of the Father”.

The goal of prayer is not to get stuff. That is not the goal of prayer.
The goal of prayer is to know God. It is to cooperate with God. God
said I am doing something on the earth, and I want you to have a part in
it. When we pray, we have a part in what God is doing. We do not
change His will; we fulfill His will. As we delight in the Lord, He
        begins to give us burdens.

Now believe this with all your heart. God does not burden you to mock
you. God does not prompt the heart to ask for what will be denied. If
you delight in the Lord and He puts a burden on your heart, that burden
is as much a prophecy as anything Isaiah ever received. Your burden is
a prophecy, and the greater the burden the greater the miracle when God
finally answers. God is not listening to words. He is listening to your
        heart.

Many years ago the Lord whispered to my heart “I wear a
stethoscope.” Have you ever had God show you something and then
He sits back and enjoys watching you unravel His truth? When
you go to the doctor and he puts the stethoscope in his ears he cannot
hear your mouth talking. You can say anything you want because
he is listening to your heart. The Lord showed me that it is like that
