GIVING AND SHARING
The school’s chosen charity for the year was Heads Together - a mental health initiative spearheaded by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Aided by our amazing Friends of St Andrew’s, the school raised money through a host of fun events.
The Friday Night Camp on the first weekend of term saw a substantial increase
in campers on the previous year with lashings of pizza, games and a late night film with popcorn. Marshmallows around the fire pit with hot chocolate also kept our campers happy. The following day, the majority of the school, some a little bleary eyed, trekked across the Downs, catching up with old friends and making new ones along the way. In its 44th year, this is a super event to bring the school community together. Back at base and with the smell of sausages and burgers from the BBQ wafting through the air, the dog show brought a fantastic 24 hours to a close.
The Friend’s fireworks evening is one of the best in Eastbourne and attracted hundreds of visitors from the local area while the Advent Fair was jam-packed with wonderful stalls, children’s enterprise stands and arts and crafts galore.
Collections for HeadsTogether were also made at our carol services and nativity plays, coffee mornings and at our Rugby Festival where spectators made donations for their tea and cake.
Alongside Heads Together, money was also raised for YoungMinds through their WearYellow Day; theYear 8s ran a cake sale for Bliss - a charity supporting families of premature babies, and money was collected at our Remembrance Service and through poppy sales for the British Legion.
Sadly, Mr Jones’ Headmaster’s Challenge which encourages the children’s entrepreneurial skills with a focus on philanthropy was postponed due to Coronavirus.
