                38 | PLAYING OUR PART
PLAYING OUR PART IN SOCIETY
A St Andrew’s Prep education is so much more than the academics, sport, or the performing and creatives arts that our pupils are exposed to on a daily basis.
Yes, of course they are crucial for a child’s development. But we also teach the children that they are part of a larger community where everyone is responsible for those around them and that by giving to charity, by visiting the elderly or by fighting for a cause, they are playing their par t while developing a sense of compassion and a strong humanitarian spirit.
The Headmaster’s themes in his chapels each week cover areas including respect, honesty, kindness and service
to others and we saw the children embrace these themes through the year.
Here are just some of the projects the children got involved in:
Table Top sale - A first for St Andrew’s Prep which saw many children and
some parents selling second-hand items at bargain prices to help our planet
- promoting the idea of reusing and recycling. Mr Laughton and Mr Bagnall kindly fixed toys and other broken items and Mrs Thorpe from Eastbourne College was a whiz on her sewing machine ‘making do and mending’! The event raised enough money to adopt three animals with the WWF.
