Performing Arts Scholarships
Performing Arts assessments will be held on Thursday 4 February 2021 A programme and timings will be sent to candidates nearer the time.
Guidelines for Candidates
For entry to Years 5, 6 and 7 for external candidates and entry to Years 5 and 7 for internal candidates in September 2021
With opportunities to perform in large scale musicals, revue shows, concerts and performing arts tours
we have a wonderful opportunity for children who are skilled and passionate about the Performing
Arts. Children will be given opportunities to work with industry professionals.The Director of Music and Performing Arts is himself a former West End Musical Director and children will routinely have access to the best tuition available in Dance, Drama and Music.
It is desirable that Candidates demonstrate outstanding skills in drama, music and dance. In order to assess Candidates they must demonstrate all three of these disciplines, however the process is designed so that Candidates can show their particular strengths.The Performing Arts assessment will comprise the following:
The Audition
This will involve a fun group improvisation session and an interview with the Headmaster and in addition all Candidates will be required to submit a portfolio of programmes or posters of any performances they have been in.The portfolio should also include any certificates of exam/festival achievement and a short ‘review’ of a show, play or concert they have seen and enjoyed (maximum 100 words).
Candidates will then be asked to give their Performance
Each Candidate must pick one of the following options. Each option has three components – A, B and C.
Candidates should carefully select the option (DRAMA, MUSIC or DANCE) which shows them in the best light and must then perform all three components (A, B and C) within that option
Drama Option:
Perform two short contrasting monologues lasting no more than two minutes in total.
Perform one song or piece of music on your chosen instrument lasting no more than two minutes in total. Perform a short dance piece of your own choice or a further song with choreographed movement.
Music Option:
*Perform two contrasting songs or one song and a piece of music on your chosen instrument lasting no
more than four minutes in total.
Perform a short monologue lasting no more than one minute in total.
Perform a short dance piece of your own choice or a further song with choreographed movement.
Dance Option:
*Perform two short contrasting Dance performances lasting no more than four minutes in total
Perform one song or piece of music on your chosen instrument lasting no more than two minutes in total. Perform a short monologue lasting no more than one minute in total.
