Academic Scholarships
Academic assessments will be held on Saturday 30 January 2021.
Candidates should arrive between 9am and 9.15am and will be ready for collection before midday for Years 2 and 3 and after lunch at 1.30pm forYears 4 to 6.There will be a break during the morning and candidates will be provided with a drink. Please inform of any allergies or dietary requirements in advance.
A programme and timings will be sent to candidates nearer the time.
Guidelines for Candidates
For entry toYears 3 and 4 for external candidates only in September 2021
The academic assessment will comprise the following:
v Reading and spelling: candidates will undertake a standard reading and spelling test

Writing: a short creative writing task
Maths: a shor t written assessment will be under taken.The assessment is based on the requirements of the National Curriculum
All candidates will be interviewed by the Headmaster during the assessment day
Where necessary, a report from the child’s most recent pre-prep or infant school will be required to support an application

The Academic award will comprise the following papers: – Maths
– English, to include creative writing and a comprehension test
– Non-verbal reasoning computerised test
All external candidates will be interviewed by the Headmaster during the assessment day; internal candidates’ interviews may take place at a later date.
Candidates will need to bring with them a pen, pencil, rubber and ruler (calculators are not required). Papers are appropriate for children from maintained or independent schools.
Candidates will sit the exams that correspond to their year group.
Candidates should wear their current school uniform
The papers set are designed to assess academic potential. Papers are different each year and we do not issue past papers.
Pupils who are successful in gaining an academic scholarship will be expected to attend various lectures, enrichment workshops and any curricular activities that have an academic slant.

Candidates gaining an Academic award to the School are expected to work hard and contribute positively to the life of the School, to be a credit to St Andrew’s Prep and to set a good example to other pupils.
The closing date for all applications is 5pm on Wednesday 20 January 2021.
The relevant application form can be found on pages 13 and 14. Please note that for external candidates references will be required from the candidate’s current school; the confidential reference form can be found on page 15 and parents should send this to the candidate’s current school for completion by the Head and/or form teacher.
