Art Scholarships
Art assessments will be held on Wednesday 3 February 2021 and will last approximately 3 hours.
A programme and timings will be sent to candidates nearer the time.
Guidelines for Candidates
For entry to Years 5, 6 and 7 for external candidates and entry to Years 5 and 7 for internal candidates in September 2021
The Head of Art is looking for enthusiasm, imagination and creative flair for the subject, as well as strong observational skills and the ability to appreciate and control materials.
The Art assessment will comprise the following:
– Observational pencil drawing of a still life
– Activity in painting
– Interview with the Head of Art and the Headmaster.
Candidates will be invited to talk about their work and love of Art, including favourite artists or galleries and exhibitions they have visited. They will be required to submit an Art portfolio of (approximately 10 to 15 pieces).The portfolio should include:
a) Paintings executed from various viewpoints which have been carried out both at home and at school.
b) At least one full sketch book which should show a high level of observational drawing skills of objects such as plants, people, pets, etc.
3D models should be photographed rather than brought in as items could break in transit.
All materials for the Scholarship day will be supplied by the School but candidates are welcome to bring
in their own equipment. Candidates should wear their current school uniform. Portfolios must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 20 January 2021.
Pupils who are successful in gaining an Art scholarship will be expected to attend an art scholar activity which takes place after school once a week.They will also be required to continue developing their art portfolio at home with guidance from the Art Department.Art materials will be provided by St Andrew’s Prep in order for the pupils to best develop their talents. Candidates gaining an Art award to the School are expected to work hard and contribute positively to the life of the School, to be a credit to St Andrew’s Prep and to set a good example to other pupils.

The closing date for all applications is 5pm on Wednesday 20 January 2021.
The relevant application form can be found on pages 13 and 14. Please note that references for external candidates will be required from the candidate’s current school; the confidential reference form can be found on page 17 and parents should send this to the candidate’s current school for completion by the Head and/or form teacher. References from out of school clubs and organisations will be welcome from all applicants but are not essential.
