to study computer aided design in our architectural project Grand Designs.
The pupils also learnt a wide range of practical skills by constructing a mini tool-box out of wood and learnt about the different properties of a wide range of timber-based materials.
Year 8s Bloodhound Racer project saw the pupils learn about forces that impact a car before designing and making their own model cars. The final products were launched along a race track using an air compressor and timed before
the pupils made modifications to their design to improve the car’s timing! The pupils finished the year designing and making a charity money box using a range of technical drawing skills before applying their practical skills to the construction.
DTI Activity Many pupils who have an affinity for DTI take advantage of the co-curricular opportunities in school to build on the knowledge and skill they have developed in their lessons. This year, the children designed and made
programmable electronics; designed and made key rings using the laser cutter and used civil engineering software to design and make their own bridges, competing against each other to achieve the lowest cost bridge which could support the weight of a lorry.
Saturday DTI club also saw pupils explore different areas of design in an architectural design project.
