MIKE DAVIS OF DAVIS PROPANE WINS STATE PROPANE INDUSTRY’S
HIGHEST HONOR
At the annual Southern Connection Convention held at the King & Prince Resort on St. Simon’s Island
last month, Mike Davis, owner of Davis Propane in Cochran was awarded the Georgia Propane Gas
Association’s Distinguished Service Award. This award is not bestowed every year. The last time it was
bestowed was in 2014. He joins the ranks of only 14 other individuals since 1992 when the award was GPGA SERVICE AWARD
established.
Mike is a staunch supporter of the propane industry. He dedicates many hours to helping grow the
industry and his own business. He has held many positions in the Georgia Propane Gas Association
throughout the years, including committee chairman for various committees. He became President of
GPGA in 2013.
As a past president, Mike initiated a program to reinstate propane training in Georgia Technical Schools.
Through Darrell Whatley of Spalding Gas in Griffin, GA, Mike was able to arrange for furnaces to be
installed in all of the HVAC/Plumbing programs in the technical schools. Additionally, included was an
“Overview of Propane” Curriculum donated by the Propane Education & Research Council. The next step
is to partner with Rinnai to install tankless water heaters in each of the programs. His efforts have been
recognized nationally by The National Propane Gas Association and the Propane Education & Research
Council.
Mike’s early years in the industry were spent as a bobtail driver. Through his hard work and
determination, he started his own company, Davis Propane in 1996.
