                car to drive her to and from Southampton. My search ended on November 22nd,
                when two other cadets and I found a magnificent old 1946 Austin 12. It cost ten
                pounds, and with repairs and a battery we had to spend the princely sum of seven
                pounds apiece to render it roadworthy.

                   It was easy enough to arrange insurance over the phone and we drove the car
                to the agent’s house. Immediately upon arrival, he told us the shattering news that
                President Kennedy had a few minutes ago been assassinated in Dallas. The world
                had changed, but in what manner was little understood in UK, guns and their
                misuse being reserved to the ‘uncivilised’ parts of the world.
