It was also interesting to properly see the hull, because this ship incorporated
transverse thrusters (propellers). This feature was not entirely unique (Canberra
had them, though of a quite different design) but in 1964 such thrusters were
unusual and a useful maneuvering feature.
Although there were few personnel on board, I learned from those
who were aboard that there was more than the ships’ nomenclature that
differentiated the combined companies.
