“Hedgehogs are nocturnal which means they go to sleep in the day time and wake up at night time!” Perform the activity as in the video. Below is a summary:
a) The hedgehogs are asleep (sitting with head tucked into knees, arms wrapped around legs and toes pointed).
b) “Alrighthedgehogs, thesunisgoingdownsoit’stimetowakeup!”Theygradually straighten their legs and open their arms out to the side as they wake up (over about 4 counts). Encourage the children to push their knees down to touch the floor.
c) Say “hedgehog spikes” and everyone spreads their fingers wide.
d) Say, “Oh no, there’s an owl. Ahh!” Everyone quickly curls back up to a sleeping

3. Travel to Danceland: ‘The Walking Song’ performed by Peter Combe Click activity name to open YouTube video link.
Play the track and perform this activity as shown in the video. The main aim is to get the children walking in time (counting “walk two, three, four” or similar will help with this) and using their bodies in different ways. Towards the end of the song, you can come up with your own ways of moving and/or you can take suggestions from the children.
* Running time approx. 4 mins.
4. Introduce the theme: ‘Let’s Make a Circle’ written by Anne Porter Without speaking, get the children into a circle by singing acapella:
Let’s make a circle, A circle, a circle. Let’s make a circle, Here today.
