A MESSAGE FROM
               THE FESTIVAL
                   DIRECTOR

We have witnessed the first decade of Animahenasyon, and now
we are facing a new set of challenges ahead. This sounds like an
endless cycle of struggles that we, the Animation Council of the
Philippines, have faced with and lived to survive. Well it is true.
Animahenasyon have gone thru many stages for the past few years,
so does our industry. It has evolved, and will continue to do so
no matter what. Despite the fact, Animahenasyon will continue to
aspire to be the beacon of light in the sea of change, but will never
lose sight of its objective - to build an audience, awareness and
                              development of original contents.
This year’s Animahenasyon we celebrate diversity. Topics ranging
from Virtual Reality (VR) to sequential art, choreography and
technology installations, millennial artists and women animators all
transformative elements that enrich the scope of animation. These
are just some of the manifestation of ever-changing development
that is happening to animation at this very moment. We also have
an exciting program of animated films both long and short form.
Highlights of these are Makoto Shinkai’s “Kimi No Na Wa (Your
Name),” Sebastien Laudenbach’s “La Jeune fille sans mais (The
Girl without Hands),” and the Tricky Women’s “Turbulente Zeiten &
vertraute Orte (Turbulent Times & Familiar Places)” short films.
On our own original content, we have of course the 25 finalists,
and a special program honouring our women animators. As we
experience all of these to our enrichment, we will be rewarded with a
breath-taking indication of the possibilities of what lies ahead.

We have the opportunity to improve our industry. Doors are
opening. If our goal to succeed is mired with doubt then we have to
shake off that uncertainty, and take a risk in order for us to enter that
door and to see what’s on the other side. We have to take chances.
We have to do what’s right to forge on with our mission or else we
don’t exist. Failure and success goes hand in hand. This is what life
is all about. If we lose and fail in our journey, then we must rise up,
learn, have a positive attitude, and just keep on moving forward.
Have a leap of faith from where you stand!
