Day 9 Otjiwarongo
Okonjima / Africat Foundation 4 x Camp Site: self catering (2 nights)
After a final game drive you leave the peace and quiet of Etosha and head south
on the tar road until you reach the gates to Okonjima. The lodge lies a further 24km
into the middle of the mountains and it is here you will spend your last 2 nights
searching for some of the Africa’s biggest carnivores. Options include walking with
wild cheetah, tracking leopard and hyena from an open vehicle with the aid of a
telemetry and visiting the Africat Foundation.
Camping in Okonjima Nature Reserve epitomises the African safari experience. Your
small group or family can become one with nature as they visit the Carnivore Care
Centre, track leopards and cheetahs, learn about the indigenous people during
the Bushman trail, and grow attuned to the sights, sounds and ways of Namibia’s
grassy plains. The four, partially-equipped, private campsites share a swimming pool
at the foot of the Ombokoro Mountains and are located in the 2000ha non-
rehabilitation area. All four sites boast spectacular sundowner viewpoints.
With its genuine conservation story, Okonjima is always a highlight of any trip to
Namibia.
Okonjima / Africat Foundation Afternoon Reserve Activity
At Okonjima you have the opportunity to spend time out with your guide in 54,000
acres of pristine bush tracking the resident carnivores who live wild and free,
hunting for themselves. Afternoon game trails often concentrate on cheetah
tracking where you will get the opportunity to walk with Africat’s ambassador
animals whilst they go out hunting.
Day 10 Otjiwarongo
Okonjima / Africat Foundation Morning and Afternoon Reserve Activities
At Okonjima you have the opportunity to spend time out with your guide in 54,000
acres of pristine bush tracking the resident carnivores who live wild and free,
hunting for themselves. Mornings are sometimes best for leopard tracking as the
cats have often hunted overnight or are in search of prey in the early hours.
However, your guides are the experts and will make the decision on the day to
maximise your sightings.
