Everyone has the same thought during this part of the seder: “Why, while celebra ng the
freedom of our people, do we sing about a father ge ng a cheap deal for a baby goat only for
the kid to be eaten by a cat?” Well for one, it goes further than that: the cat is bi en by the dog
who is beaten by a s ck. And surprisingly the s ck is burnt by a fire which is put out by a puddle
of water. Along comes Olly the Ox who drinks the water and is soon slaughtered by a butcher.
The butcher is, well, butchered by the Angel of Death who is vanquished by Hashem.
The ques on is why, a er these characters essen ally do their job, are they ‘punished’. The
father buys a young goat for only two zuzim, that's his job right? The cat, being a cat, eats the
