professor here again..."
When my family and I came from Vietnam and sett led in
the United States at the end of 1994, I had the opportunity to
meet General Lam Quang Thi during the family gatherings
of The VNMA Alumni Association in San Jose. And Last year
during his book release about his historical work "Hell in An
Loc" at Vivo Center, I told the above story again and turned
to The General, former Commander -in -chief and said: “Mr.

General, from the bottom of my heart, I've always admired you
since I started teaching under your command. No matt er how
many changes I have faced in my life,I have never forgott en
the nobility and generosity that you have shown me.Behind
the cold face of a General with the power to kill is a person of
           altruistic and humanistic quality. ”
My days in Da Lat were wonderful. My weekly schedule
on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays was to teach at The Da
Lat NM School about military history for the 3rd and 4th years
of Class 22B, class 23, 24…. Tuesdays and Thursdays, in charge
of teaching the subject "34 years of ruling under Lord Nguyen

Phuc Chu (1691-1725)" to final-year of History students for
BA degree, and Methodology for first-year students. I always

wore a suit and tie and maintained a serious demeanor
because many of the students were older than me (some were
priests, some were monks, and some were teachers from high
schools…).As a result, some of my friends joked that I was old
           before my age.
Every morning, The school had a bus to pick up professors
and administrative staff from the city at 7:00 in front of Hoa
Binh market and returned to the city around 4:30 pm. It was
nice riding a warm bus to get through the cold morning of Da
Lat but you had to be on time and the bus would not return
until late in the afternoon. Because I sometimes fi nished
teaching early,I decided to use Honda motorbike.I had to
cover from head to toe, keeping my hands in heavy gloves
to dare make the journey from Phan Dinh Phung (near the
City Hospital), around the bank of Xuan Huong lake, passing
Da Lat Railway Station, crossing Than Tho lake, then coming
to the hill area of the school campus... It was cold, but very
