Luat was arrested by combat police few times while the
students were protesting in the campus of Law, Literature, and
Van-Hanh university. Combat police beat him badly and threw
him in Chi-Hoa prison at Le-Van-Duyet street, Saigon for few
months of each time. Then they released him for going home
with deeply hurt in his soul and body.
Longtime Nguyen did not see Luat after the last time; he
came in Nguyen room at December 1966 to say some words
before he leaves Saigon.
Nguyen opened wide his eyes to look at Luat in surprise.
“Why do you want to go back Ban-Me-Thuot?”
Luat had a short sigh.
“You already knew about my family. My parent was there
from 1954 after they left North Vietnam.”
“But you do not graduate MS yet. What wrong for you?”
“Nothing. I released anything that I was a dream about.”
Nguyen started at Luat.
“Were something wrong for you? You were still young; you
can rebuild anything again. Luat, do not pay attention to the
politic anymore.”
“Why?”
“Because we are not that kind of those people.”
“Yes. But you will see the allied troops will deploy on this
country, and the war will break up everywhere.”
