our Lord Jesus Christ" (I Thessalonians 5:23). According to this verse, the human being is comprised of spirit, soul, and body in one person. Genesis 2:7 speaks of the soul of man. Job 27:3 speaks of the spirit (life) of man. Soul and spirit in the scripture are interconnected. In Job 33:4 it states: "The spir it of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life."
The first man (Adam) received God's spirit (life) into his earthly clay. When we put on Christ through water baptism in Jesus' Name and receive the Holy Spirit evidenced by speaking in tongues, the Spirit within the earthly man becomes renewed and strengthened.
In conclusion, the bipartite nature of man consists of the spirit and body. The inner man is the life of the outer man, the flesh. God breathed into Adam. His blood is the life to the five senses, his flesh. Blood is life and life is soul (Deuteronomy 12:23; Leviticus 17:11, 14). The outer man is body- flesh made from dust. When God formed the body from the dust of the
earth, the body had a tongue, but no speech. The body had ears, but no hearing. The body had eyes, but no seeing. The body had nerve endings andcentralnervoussystem, butnofeeling. Thebodyhadabrain, butno thinking. The body had a heart, but no blood or life to activate the heart. The body had a nose but had no breathing. Truly, the source of all life is the
spirit of life from God!
The true source of the powers of reasoning, imagination, intellect, mem ory, understanding, emotion, and will comes from the immaterial nature of man, thespirit. Corinthians 4:16; 1Corinthians 2:11; Ecclesiastes 3:21; Galatians 5:16-17.)
5.3 The Source and The Destiny of The Human Soul
Man is created with three main elements: spirit, soul, and body or flesh. The spirit is the divine element, and is the life-giving power to the body. As we see in Genesis 2, God created the clay part first and breathed the breath of life to that clay. The soul (Hebrew word "nepesh") was created. That soul ortheblood, isthelifeoftheflesh.
