6 ♦ 6a>le WWters' Theology Chapter One
False teachings of men and the devil were denounced by the eyewitness es of Christ and His sufferings in the early days of the Christian era. "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world" (I John 4:1).
(See also II Timothy 4:3-4; I Timothy 4:1-2; Revelation 2:6). They crept in almost at the same time, sought to defile the proclamation of the good news from the very beginning. False doctrine has continued ever since, snow- bcilling through the different church ages, and is firmly lodged in modern day theology. How relevant is the admonition of God! "Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they
said. We will not walk therein" (Jeremiah 6:16).
