was the use of the name of a missionary or the Name of Jesus. The church at Corinth was far from grasping the doctrine. They already were divided into four groups. Some said they were of Paul, others of Apollos, others of Cephas, and others of Christ. It must be true that three of the groups did not really understand in what name they were baptized. Only one quarter of them were saying that they were baptized in Jesus' Name. Paul had to
explain that he did not baptize anyone in his name. His gospel was not to baptize in his name, but to preach Christ's death, burial and resurrection. No one can be baptized without first understanding the mystery of Christ's death, burial and resurrection.
