called upon the name of the LORD." The saving God revealed Himself to Isaac the son of Abraham, who built one altar and called on the name of that one and only God (Genesis 26:24-25).
• ThatsameGodrevealedHimselftoJacobonhiswaytoHaran."...Iam the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed" (Genesis 28:13).
• When Jacob returned to Bethel, God said unto him, "Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God...and he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him.... And God appeared unto Jacob again... a n d blessed him. And God said unto him. Thy name is Jacob: thy name shallnotbecalledanymoreJacob,butIsraelshallbethy name...Iam

God spake with him. Bethel" (Genesis 35:1,7,9-15).
' When Israel was to go down to Egypt with his household, the same God appeared to him in a vision when he was offering sacrifices at Beersheba (Genesis 46:1-4).
The unchanging Godrevealed himself to Moses at the burning bush saying, "I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob" (Exodus 3:6). "And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them. The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they
shall say to me. What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said. Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you... this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations" (Exodus

The same God that spoke to Moses appointed Joshua to lead all of Israel. At the end of his ministry, Joshua warned the people; "fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in truth; and put away the godswhich yourfathers servedon the other side of the flood, and in Egypt... And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this daywhom ye will serve... but as for me and my house, we will
serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:14-15).
The same God was revealed to the prophet Samuel (I Samuel 3:20,21) and Samuel said of Him: "...If ye do return unto the Lord with all your
