The Oneness of God ♦ 35 hearts... and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him
only..." (I Samuel 7:3).
David witnessed His oneness saying: thou art great, O LORD GOD: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears" (IISamuel 7:22) (See I Chronicles 17:20; Psalm 83:18; 86:10; 89:6-8.)
Solomon's witness (I Kings 8:23).
Isaiah in a vision saw God's oneness. He saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:1).
Christ's testimony of the oneness of God: "And Jesus answered him. The first of all the commandments is, 'Hear O, Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord'" (Mark 12:29) (See John 17:3; Matthew 4:10; John 14:9-10; Joh.n 8:24-25, 27; John 10:30; Revelation 1:8,17-18; Revelation
22:13; John 12:44,45.)
Thomas' testimony: "Thomas answered and said unto him. My Lord and my God." Qohn 20:28)

The human mind is one-God conscious (Romans 2:14-15; Acts 17:26- 27; Psalm 49:12,20).

The doctrine of the oneness of God can be stated in two affurnations:
The One God is Spirit and Word
• There is one God with no distinction of persons as Word (John 1:1,14).
• The same God has no distinction of persons as Spirit (John 4:24).
This is truly uncompromising monotheism. God is absolutely Spirit and Word, indivisibly one. There are no essential distinctions in His eternal nature. God is known to His people as both Word and Spirit. This fact is stat ed very clearly in the scriptures.
