-A.S a highly respected nondenominational preacher, Tekle enjoyed the esteem of many religious groups; each one wanted him to become a member of its church or mis sion. After his baptism in the name of Jesus, he became the target of malicious opposition.
Trying to persude him to renounce his baptism, a com mittee of leading ministersfrom the Full Gospel Believers' Fellowship came to reason with him. When the mission failed, they returned to Addis to spread ridiculous rumors about Tekle and Erkenesh.
Prophecies against Tekle and his family became the special feature of all-night prayer sessions. On August 16, 1970, God blessed Tekle and Erkenesh with a daughter. They named her Mehret, meaning mercy. One widely told prophecy sent a drove of travelers to Awasa to see God's judgment. The prophet said that Mehret, who was only a few months old, had been born with withered arms and legs.
