Unseen Hands
Mamo Asres heard of Tekle, and while he had no in terest for himself, he told a friend who had a paralyzed son, "They say this man prays for the sick and they are instantly healed. He could probably cure your son."
"Would you ask him to come pray for my son?" his friend asked. "Of course, I do not plan to be converted, but I would even be baptized to get my son healed. I could return to my own church afterwards."
Tekle and Erkenesh refused to give Mamo an answer until they prayed about the matter. When Tekle came to Mamo, he said, "No, we cannot go."
Erkenesh added, "We felt troubled by the leading of the Lord not to pray for the boy, but He told us: Go ahead; if you want to go alone, you may. I will not go with you. This man only wants healing for his son, he does not want Me."
Mamo marvelled at Jesus, who knows the hearts of all men, and asked, "What can I do to be saved?"
Tekle happily answered that question in great detail, using numerous verses of Scripture. Then Mamo surprised him by saying, "I will not go home until you baptize me in that beautiful name."
Coming from the river, Mamo insisted that Tekle and Erkenesh go home with him to meet his family. They saw his four-year-old daughter who could not walk and prayed for her before they left. Nothing happened when they asked the Lord to heal her, and in the Ethiopian manner Mamowalked to the edge of his premises with his guests. When he returned to the house, he found the child
walking!
