The Lord Working with Them
Tekle actually belonged to a secret, subversive organiza tion which the late emperor had expelled from Ethiopia, called the United Pentecostal Church. He expressedshock that his building valued at 150,000 birr should be given to the local agent, Teklemariam, to be used for seditious programs under the guise of religion.
His letter made the rounds of the offices that in vestigated such matters, and the authorities summoned Tekle to bring his defense against Amare's charges. Tekle sent Ashenafi to the office with a copy of Amare's letter to Brother Tenney. When the authorities read the letter they called in Amare. "So you are the follower of this secret organization, the United Pentecostal Church, and not Teklemariam as you have charged." They cleared Tekle of all blame and released Amare with two serious warnings: he must never lay claim to the church in Nazareth again, and if they ever found out that the United Pentecostal Church was involved in any political affairs, they would hold him responsible and he would suffer the consequences.
