possession and a few opportuni es missed in the rst spell, we went into the break 5-0 down, knowing we had le some points out on the eld. The second half started and so did a horror 8 minutes of footy, with Otago Boys’ scoring 3 tries in this period to go up 26-0 and have all the momentum. However, we were able to get this momentum and possession back through some strong carries and good kicking, but again, due
to poor execu on and errors at the wrong me, this meant we could never quite nish our opportuni es. A late try to Ryan Taylor was all we came away with, going down 26-7 in disappoin ng fashion. Ryan Taylor ba led well and tested the Otago defensive line o en, with Harry Taylor and Morgan Riordan ge ng through a lot of work, as they had all season.
Overall
S ll a great season with lots of posi ves
to take out. Shout out to Derms, Skelty, and Daryl Thompson for the endless hours they put in prepping us for games, and also to Rangi for the hours he put in managing the team. With the Royal Blue’s heading
to South Africa for the world tournament, Year 14 could be on the cards for few, as it doesn’t sound like a bad gig. Thanks for the great friendships and memories. The team of 2018 wish the troops all the best for next year to con nue the proud Royal Blue legacy.

SBHS 2ND XV RUGBY
The 2018 2nd XV had a slow start to the season on the winning front and a er three games into the season were faced with a revised draw a er the withdrawal of Te Anau U18.
This became the start of a progress-building pla orm as the season went on, and the wins started happening a er the team showed some self-belief and resilience, clawing their way to the playo s.
Gore High 1st XV were the form team to beat in the compe on and a er losing to them 45 to 5 in the last round robin play, we went on to meet them in the nal. This game would have to be the team’s best playing performance, with a very hard fought and tense nish. The 2nds never gave up but unfortunately fell short by two tries in the last 10 minutes, losing to Gore 38 to 24.
Congratula ons to the following boys for making the Southland U16 Rugby Team: Mitchell Hamilton, Mitchell Thompson, Sam Hartmann, and Sam Clark.
A huge thanks also to our coaches Glenn Taylor, Greg Hart and Manager Craig Hall
