RUGBY LEAGUE 9’S
Day Boys Vs Hostel Boys
This year, a few of the other Year 13s and I decided to set up a league game, due to the high demand for league within the school. With hopes of raising awareness of the sport we planned a game that we knew would be exci ng, the Day Boys vs Hostel Boys. With each team looking for bragging rights, a lot of passion was displayed in this xture.
The game started o with a lot of aggression from the Hostels, led by Sean Withy’s thumping tackle on Mitch O ley o the
rst kick-o . This had both teams red
up from the very start. Day boys, Tim
Price and Kenneth Singleton, led the pack strongly, with solid runs to gain vital metres towards the try-line, with hopes of winning. Throughout the whole game, it was obvious both teams did not want to lose this game. With the score being 10-8 to the Hostels at half- me, the Hostels knew they would have to use their speed to exploit the Day Boys’ defence.
Day Boys fought back strongly to close the gap and were successful in ge ng over the line through Elisara Kuresa, but were not rewarded in their e orts, with it being called a ‘no try’, which really took its toll on the team. The Day Boys had seemingly given up to the Hostels, as they scored again, with the score now 16-8 to the Hostels, meaning they took out the rst game of what we hope to be an annual game from now on.
Year 13s will carry our team’s culture with enthusiasm and will look back on the game with pride in the future. Good luck to both teams for the years to come.
