Doubl
team was fortunate to win with ying colours. Through out the season the team played one game against Hargest which we won 12-2. The remainder of our games were won by default.
The team was: D. Campbell (captain), J. Henderson, Cain, McCosh.
The A team won only half of its games. It suffered through not having a coach and a regular practice period. In its game against Central Southland College First V, the team narrowly lost 16-18. The team: Camp bell (captain), Aitken, Chapman, Cockburn, Lamb, McDowell, Ronald.
The C team had a similar season, although by the end of the season the players (Adams, White, Clark, Jones and Parr) were combining well. All were new to the game, but Adams and White showed marked improvement.
The E team had more success, winning eight of its ten games and nishing second in the competition. All players (Dermody, Norman, Fife, Dud eld, Horner and Evans) were "Coldstream" boarders and playing in their rst season of basketball.
In winning all of its games and the competition, the A team had a very successful season. Though the team lacked a coach and a regular practice, it managed to play basketball of a high standard. The team: Ryder (captain), Thompson, Ash, Cowie, Jones.
The B team were runners-up to the A team and played particularly well all season. Six of the ten games were won. The team: Blair (captain), Clarke, Ramsay, Heathcote, Manning.
The C team (Cameron, Vallance, Hampton, Kincaid, Brown, Breen, Stewart, Campbell) improved rapidly as the season progressed, and in the second round lost only one game. The team would like to thank W. Collie for his help and encouragement.
The Under 14 A team this year had a successful season in nishing runners-up to James Hargest B.

The team's standards improved as the season went on and by the end of the season it had developed into a well-knit combination. Undoubtedly the best game of the season was the one which decided the competition, when in a closely fought game they came out the victors 10-8.

N. Walker beat P. Weir 6-3, 6-0; beat W. Stewart 6-4, 6-0.

The School Team
NEIL WALKER (captain): Leading player in the School. Has great natural ability and a wide range of shots. Neil is capable of reaching the top bracket of tennis if he tightens his game and concentration. Greater and more intense competition is what is needed to lift his game. No. 1 player for the 1965-66 Southland Slazenger Shield team. Competed in the N.Z. Junior Championships. Proved to be an ideal team captain and gave much help to younger players in the School.
PETER SPENCER: A powerful stroker of the ball, particularly on the forehand. However, his backhand needs attention and at present is suspect. Volleys very well and his whole game has improved enormously.
The team would like to thank Mr. Alabaster for his able coaching and close support throughout the season. The team consisted of R. Keith (captain), K. McKenzie (vice-captain), E. Stevens, R. Telfer, B.
Longman, R. Ibbotson.
The B team played reasonably throughout the season and at one time were lying fth in the competition. Be cause of the lack of organised practices and of a coach, the team were not working in together as well as they could. All of the players had an even share of scoring goals and as many games as were won were lost. The team: R. King (captain), Bayliss, McCosh, Withington, Cuthill, Ball.
The C team, after a shaky start, settled down and played well. There was no outstanding player but all members improved as the season went on. Although we were not placed in the competition, we'all enjoyed our games. The team: Nicholson (captain), Lapthorn, Morri son, McFarlane, Waterston, Cunningham, Drage.

This sport continues to grow in popularity in the School and the large number of boys playing tennis this season is particularly pleasing. The School has a wide range of promising juniors and as a result the standard
. of school tennis is rising.
Secondary school competitions on Tuesday after
noons were keenly fought, particularly in the junior section.
The highlight of the season was the annual match against Otago Boys' played at the School courts on 22nd and 23rd March. It resulted in an overwhelming victory for our strong School side by 19 rubbers to 2. The Otago six appeared to be weaker than usual, but they showed admirable spirit in all their matches.
