LESTER SMITH: A young player with loads of natural ability. Lester has great potential and his talent will be an asset to school tennis in the future. Has a ne mental approach to the game and has the ability to reach the very top in tennis. Holder of the N.Z. Under 13 Singles title.
GRAHAM HEENAN: A powerful player, Graham is capable of very good tennis when he strikes form. However, he will have to steady his game and play more consistent tennis if he wants to make full use of his ability.
BRETT SHAND: A steady, tactical player, Brett played consistently well this year. Needs more " re" in his game and could go far.
GEOFF BREEN: A capable player, Geo has sound ground strokes but lacks confidence at the net. His serving is consistent and his concentration excellent.
Atldetics
The School this year has had a full programme in athletics. At the inter-school sports, the highlight was when Ciel Wallace won the Senior 440 Yards race.
The club this year has become a liated with the Southland Centre and is now a club in its own right. Two delegates from the club have been appointed to represent the School's interests at the Centre meetings.
Over the summer season, School club members com pete in the Saturday meetings, and members wearing the School colours have performed creditably at the sports meetings at Otautau, Tuatapere, Riverton and Browns.
During the winter, club members ran with the Inver cargill Club, two members in particular having been prominent. These are Takitimu and De Boer, both Third Formers.
The School this year has been fortunate in having Kevin Todd to represent it. He is probably one of New Zealand's most promising young jumpers. We congratu late him for his successes and wish him the best of luck in the future.
Once again rain interrupted the sports but they were successfully concluded the following day. Conditions on the rst morning were perfect for the events and three records were broken. K. G. Todd set a new Hop, Step and Jump record of 43ft. 6in., and in the High Jump he broke the old record by an inch with a new record of 5ft 6}in. A new Under 14 record was set by P. M. Ferguson in the High Jump when he cleared 4ft 9in.
