is painted with various pigments found in New Mexico soil. There is no

While searching for Vazquez de Coronado artifacts in 1934, UNM archaeolo-
gy students unearthed a pre-Columbian pueblo ruin, where many layers of
fresco murals between 469 and 709 years old were discovered, removed
and carefully preserved. See the murals and the site, which was home to
several hundred Tiwa people between 1300 and 1600 A.D.

New Mexico has the largest number, range of ages, diversi-
ty of types, and range of preservation of volcanoes in North
America. A volcanic eruption in the Jemez Mountains
one million years created the Valles Caldera, one of
seven super volcanoes found in the world.
