destination for a young family and became a regular event that we looked forward to.
The next important event was the purchase of our first home at 20 Garrett St Kingsford. The events leading up to that are worth recording. At Alldis and Cox as sales manager, I inspected a new listing which was a deceased estate property in Murray Street Waverley. I was accompanied by the new property manager who asked me what I would do with the property, my answer, would be a new kitchen, bathroom, paint job new fittings and return to the market. He sought my opinion as to the profitability and viability. He then suggested that we go partners in the venture and acquire the property. The only issue for me was that I did not have the money. He then offered to finance the venture on the basis that I do or organise the renovations and he would act as the financier. We would split the profits or losses 50/50. I jumped at the opportunity, and the rest is history, we sold the property successfully and my share served as the deposit on my first home. We bought 20 Garrett Street, Maroubra in 1965 for 10,250 pounds. It was a wonderful first home for our children, safe, quiet location, lovely neighbours, nice backyard, and had proximity to schools and shops.
