Carrie came across as a pragmatic, down to earth, no nonsense, sharp sense of humour type person, all expected of an English girl. She was a breath of fresh air that came out of the blue, gorgeous to look at, intelligent, energetic, as the saying goes the best things eventuate when you least expect them, this was one of those moments.
However, I had a lot of baggage being fresh out of a failed relationship. Therefore, I was covertly distrusting both of myself and others, and super sensitive which made things difficult.
Our meeting was a real test in time, I was driven by instinct and knew that I had to tread carefully. Fortunately for me Carrie was not making any overt moves and we both just moved carefully. That is one of the by-products of meeting late in life when you have had a history of difficult relationships. The upside was that I did have experiences, how I used those experiences would determine my future.
Ironically, Carrie had a similar life story to tell, however the more I got to know her the more I admired her inner strength, her courage, and her intellect. Carrie left the UK at an early age to travel the world working on cruise ships, met the man she was to marry from Australia, unfortunately that did not work out. She changed her residency and chose to live in Australia, got a job at Qantas where she remained for 20 years, working in many different capacities, continued to travel, living in Sydney and Cairns and finally her parents and sister followed in her footsteps and emigrated to Australia.
