• Never discipline anyone in the presence of others.
• Be prepared to forgive and forget. When disciplinary action has been given, the superior should
resume a normal attitude with his subordinate.
• The disciplinary action should be fair and reasonable and should be applied by the direct superior of
the employee rather than HRD or higher officers of the company.
• Discipline should be considered constructive. It should show the offender how to correct his errors
and leave him willing to change for the better.
• Disciplinary action should not be used on an entirely routinary basis – each case should be treated
individually.
• Give more importance to counselling employees for their behavioral deviations rather than
immediately imposing punitive sanctions.
• Document all disciplinary actions taken on employee
