In his book Cole looked Back to that day When a show of mercy Altered his way
Cole saw his brothers And himself in his mind As his thoughts went back To that far distant time
The posse fired as one It happened so fast The Youngers were down With one mighty blast
The posse in truth Should have hated these men But as Cole observed God’s mercy kicked in
Cole said after the fact When we made our last stand Their attitude changed When we fell in their hand
Yes Cole said they knew Jesus mercy was there As they bound our wounds And gave us much care
