In Cole’s book he spoke Of a very dear friend Who was loyal to The Youngers to the end
This loyal servant Of the family Was affectionately Known as Aunt Suse
To the North a slave Is the name she bore But to the Youngers She was so much more
She was family
For so many years Through good times and bad Through sorrow and tears
The night they burned Cole’s Home she suffered too And later what horrors The North put her through
Hunting for Cole and Jim They asked her where they were When she refused to tell They literally hung her
But the family cut
Her down and she was saved This woman called Suse The North called a slave
