I believe in student empowerment. I want to see students with the tools to
make good decisions in their lives. By that, I don’t just refer to cognitive skills.
Students’ affective dispositions also need to be addressed; how they feel
about the decisions they’re going to have to make in life, whether they are
able to cope with the stress that life brings, and what their strengths are.
I enjoy working alongside students to delve deeper into complicated issues,
discuss rebuttals, and hone arguments to be succinct and persuasive. These
moments outside the classroom really add colour and vibrancy to RV life.

I am thankful for the opportunity to teach alongside talented individuals,
most of whom were my own teachers. They possess a wealth of knowledge
and impart it to me readily. As an educator in RV, I am enriched by these
professional learning opportunities.
I am looking forward to our next batch of students who will have a chance
to join the Bilingual Leaders Academy and be immersed in intellectually-
stimulating discussions on Sino-Singapore relations, Sino-U.S. relations and
global events.

My convictions lie in student empowerment, mostly by
providing them with autonomy and space for ideation, action
and leadership. In my teaching experience, I have found that
when students are given the opportunity to construct their own
knowledge and design the programmes that they envision,
that is where the most learning occurs.

I am humbled by my students’ courage to offer Literature in English at the
H2 level even though they were not Humanities students at the secondary
level. This intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness fascinate me and I
find myself learning with them.
