the girl, the parents and the mother of the father. This family cherished the desire to have a brother for the girl. But, there seemed to be no chance. Even the astrologers indicated the absence of a son in their fate. My father used to tutor the girl regularly. Once, a reputed astrologer visited the Pune city and Mr. Pardeshi wanted to visit him in relation to getting a son. The lawyer’s mother consulted my father and asked my father to accompany Mr. Paradeshi to Astrologer’s visit. My father suggested that they should pray to God if they wanted a son and not visit anyone. The lawyer expressed to my father that he already prayed in so many different ways and performed various rituals too, but with no effect. My father suggested to him to read the Navanatha Scripture in an austere way with particular observances, total 9 times. These observances were going to be impossible due to the health condition as well as job situation of Mr. Paradeshi. My father also told Mr. Paradeshi that after completion of the nine repetitions, a Yogi would bless their family with a son. The lawyer started this observance and he was surprised that all difficulties in performance of this reading were removed, like a miracle. [Illustration 12: My father’s home in 1939]
After completion of the promised reading, the lawyer’s family performed a closing worship with celebration. That night someone knocked at the door at 11 p.m. This event took place in 1939 when it was very uncommon to be out of home after 8 p.m. On opening the door, Mr. Pardeshi saw a Yogi with long matted hair and beard. Yogi said that someone had already told about his arrival. The lawyer obviously remembered my father’s words. When the lawyer’s wife bowed to the Yogi, the Yogi immediately made a blessing mudra (Abhaya Mudra) and said, “May you bear a son”. She delivered son within 9 months. The Yogi spent that night in
