First edition. “For many years this was the only work dealing with Spanish commer-
cial and economical organization in America” (Solano). The book examines the house
of trade “Casa de Contratación” and the Fleet of the Indies. The book is considered a
capital work for the study of the commercial trade in the West Indies, explaining mech-
anisms of farms, branches and savings, exports and imports of American Consulate,
infrastructure, courts and tribunals, laws and ordinances given between the different
             Spanish kingdoms.
“It deals mainly with the Casa de Contratación of Seville exerted on all merchants,
factors, masters of ships and seafarers, and their authority to ensure compliance of
ordinances dealing with navigation and America, and contains important news about
the old trade with the Indies “(Colmeiro). Nice copy; frontispiece a little weak as usual.
Complete including the last leaf which is usually missing.
