Cisco’s Meraki Offering is Cheaper BUT Less Intelligent
• By default, load balancing of traffic on the Meraki is
disabled by default
• When load balancing is enabled, load distribution is
not bi-directional but only uses download speeds
• Traffic is divvied out on a per connection basis based
upon a ratio of link bandwidths, not latency/loss/jitter
• Meraki looks at all connections as being equal, so a
slower link can get saturated by two high bandwidth
connections
• Meraki does not recommend using WAN links with
different bandwidths
• Uses DNS, ICMP and ARP on the uplink to determine
the availability the WAN links – failover times will be
up to 5 minutes
