You are going to learn to speak and write the following words and phrases in Spanish:
I - (that’s the word “I”, not the letter “i”) I want __.
I do not want __.
I don’t want __.
The Agreement:
“Why do I need to learn this stuff?”. “Why do I need to learn this stuff in this particular order?”.
In order for your learning to be successful you have to “buy in” early to the fact that the Mona Lisa Method® is a learning process. In order for it to work, you have to follow the Steps verbatim.
You have to start somewhere, and like the Chinese proverb reads: “The longest journey begins with the first step.” In your first step, you are going to learn to speak and write the following:
“I”, “I want __.”, “I do not want __.”. So if you agree that this is critical stuff, and you will never be able to speak Spanish without it, then let’s shake hands on it and get going!
The Lesson:
Let’s look at the word: “I”
The Spanish word for “I” is “yo”.
The word “I” is always capitalized in English. However, notice here that “yo” is not capitalized. In Spanish, “yo” is only capitalized if it is the first word of a sentence (just like in English).
The word “yo” is classified as a ”Little Word” in the Mona Lisa Method®.
Little Words do big things! Your Field Guide contains an entire section dedicated to them.
We use a unique font (typography) for Little Words. From now on Little Words will be written exclusively in this font. This gives you a heads-up that the word you are seeing in the exercise is a Little Word and not a word or phrase that belongs in another classification.
All you need to know right now are three things: The Spanish word for “I” is: yo, it is classified as a Little Word, and that Little Words bear a unique font in the Mona Lisa Method®.
In order to make Little Words even more recognizable, they will also appear in superscript to make them stand out even more noticeably than the other classifications. For example: I = yo
