Frequently Asked Questions
11/24/15
Q: What is the difference between a UL Listed Spill Containment System and a Non-UL Listed Spill Containment System?
A: A UL Listed Spill Containment System has been tested by Underwriters Laboratories and has been found to meet or exceed
all requirements for flammability, acid resistance and tensile strength while Non-UL Listed Spill Containment may not have been
tested or may not have passed the tests. EnviroGuard is the pioneer of UL Listed Spill Containment as the category did not exist
and is the result of a two year co-operative between the EnviroGuard and UL Engineering Departments.
Q: Are EnviroGuard pillows UL Listed?
A: Absorption pillows do not have a UL listing by themselves because they are considered a component with the UL Listed Spill
Containment System. Our pillows are UL Recognized and tested to meet the ASTM E-648 flame test and also tested to ensure
they absorb and neutralize sulfuric acid.
Q: What if the pillows have an orange tag instead of a blue one?
A: The pillows with the orange tags follow the same standards as the pillows with the blue tags. Orange tagged pillows are just
part of an older series.
Q: What type of document(s) should be shown to the fire department, insurance company, property owner or authority having
jurisdiction?
A: The UL Certificates must be kept and displayed in every battery room with EnviroGuard products. Keep in mind that battery
rooms may have various manufacturers spill containment, but, only EnviroGuard products have been tested by UL and display
the UL logos.
Q: Is there anything indicating that the liner itself is UL Listed?
A: Underwriters Laboratories does not have a category for liners by themselves and any representation to this fact is false. The
UL enforcement division should be contacted if any company represents their product as UL Listed but can not provide the
certificates for VXMB and VXMB2 categories.
