“What’s wrong?” asked Corin.
“Nothing. The demonstration has ended. If I press the “Send” button, it will actually make this transaction as if it were real.”
“Since the cleaners won’t be online for two more days,” said Corin, “what will happen if you send it?”
“It would send this confusing information to the cleaner to be available whenever he came online. It would also remove whatever amount I placed in the payment block from your off- shore account into the cleaner’s offshore account and start transferring it to his domestic account in increments of $4,000.”
“Okay. Don’t send the transmission. I can see by the inter- face that you have thought of everything, Tom.”
“I tried to do the best job possible.”
“I assume that this is only copy of this software in existence anywhere in the world?”
“Yes, Sir,” Tom said deliberately.
“Well, you and your crew have earned my gratitude and a well-deserved rest. Since I have pushed you guys so hard, why don’t you take a few days and relax. I will have my guys take you anywhere you want for the next few days since we are a little ahead of schedule. I’ll put the software through its paces, and if it functions as bug-free as you say it will, then I won’t need your services any longer. And we can all get on with the rest of our lives.”
Corin shook both men’s hands as he summoned his guards.
“Take them to their friends, and tomorrow take them where they want to go on me,” Corin finished.
As the two left the room led by the guard, Tom had forebod- ing thoughts and hopes. “Now that the software is functional, I hope Seige rescues us in time. I wonder what number were we on Corin’s hit list?”
