giving him a sedative. She opened the door and noticed her team- mates sitting around the table eating assorted snacks. She spotted Seige eating a sandwich and motioned him to meet her in the backyard. Once in the yard he walked her and stopped two feet away. They reached out to embrace each other.
“I needed that,” he said, slowly moving away.
“Me too.”
“What’s up?”
“I have so much to say,” I’m not sure I know where to be-
gin.”
“Just start from the top, and let it flow.
“I called you early yesterday, but you either hadn’t got home
or were on the way to your last mission.” “Go on.”
“I hope this gives you some sort of relief because I believe I discovered who killed your wife.”
Seige lowered his head.
“After all these years, I don’t know what to say. Are you sure?” “I checked the agency’s files for all agents that had any reason
to be within a five-mile radius of where your wife had her staffing business and only found three. Then I cross-referenced our files with agency missions and infractions, and it seemed I was on to something. The day before your wife was killed, someone broke into one of our minor but secret files on-line. We’re still trying to figure out how it was done, but I discovered the agent sent out to check the breach. I searched for the agent’s name, but it was missing and access to the file was denied without direct supervisor permission. For several years I’ve tried to find that name with no luck. So I’ve kept tabs on all three suspects hoping our renegade would make a move. I thought the trail was getting cold until something recently put him right in my face.”
“What was that?”
“Software we recently discovered showed him working for the opposition. Brace yourself, Seige, because Dan killed your wife. I don’t know why, but I’ll bet my forty-caliber Glock he’s the one.”
